“Nanika used to walk with her younger sister to class, and I had a class with her sister. She didn’t like me and told me to stay away from her. I didn’t listen. Every time I saw Nanika, I’d tell her sister, ‘She’s going to be my wife, and we’re going to have a lot of babies.’”

Their first wedding was a quiet moment of commitment, just before Terrell deployed to Iraq. “It meant so much to us because we got married right before I deployed. I didn’t want her to be left out if something happened to me. So we went to the Justice of the Peace, got married, and I was back on the plane to California.”
